Christina Lamas is executive director of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry. She is responsible for leading the organization in fulfilling its mission, realizing its vision, overseeing operation, and implementing new strategic initiatives. She also represents the NFCYM to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and numerous professional ministry organizations throughout the United States and abroad.
Lamas was born and raised in Southern California. She made her way into the field of youth ministry after 10 years of volunteering at her home parish, where she was drawn to empower young people to find ways to actively live out their faith and continue to grow in their relationship with Christ in daily life. She went on to hold multiple positions within the Office of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. She was first hired as the youth ministry consultant, then served as San Gabriel regional coordinator. Her final position was serving as the associate director and division coordinator, which allowed her to sharpen her skills in the areas of budget management, leadership, personnel/volunteer management, strategic planning, and building bridges (“gente puente”) to diverse communities.
Lamas has been affiliated with NFCYM since 2007 serving on numerous committees and as a presenter and trainer. She also participated in the Called to Witness program sponsored by Catholic Relief Services and has served as an adjunct faculty member for the Center for Ministry Development.
She brings to NFCYM 20+ years’ experience in catechesis and youth ministry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in social work at the University of Southern California. She holds numerous certificates in catechesis, adult faith formation, pastoral care, building intercultural competence and youth ministry.
